~ The Watcher ~

Creativity happens out of no where, there never has been a rhyme to it or method of it’s spark & The Watcher is no different…

Embracing the style that has developed over the years is still an exciting experience… that has always been slightly askew, invoking a sensual vibe, an essence that creatively & subliminally is sensual in nature, seems to be the re-accuring theme…

Here’s the steps of The Watcher… the enjoyment of the process is as vital as the end result…otherwise, why bother ¯\_(ツ)_/ ¯

Sat down with a 17×14, blank sheet of Strathmore Bristol multi-medium paper & a photo that brought her out again…

Triggered from a photo, randomly scrolling through reddit (r/siliconeros) the pose was inspiring enough to place her in it… As you may have begun to pick up on, the artworks are never really meant to mimic the photo / person / scene that inspired them… aside from placing the same stunning creature that has grown with my artworks since Creatively Awoken

Started with a Staedtler lead pencil sketch, then 1st round of inking using Staedtler rapidograph ink pens & erased all pencil lines…

Letting the creatively flow naturally without any real idea or concrete end game is the process I embrace.. not knowing how these projects are going to turn out is the true beauty that keeps things interesting to the end…from inking to wondering what color medium to use for her that felt right the next day, is all the part of the process, while beginning to ponder the medium to use on the background…

Thinking of how to spark her hair with color & not compete with the rest of the piece, deciding to go with Staedtler fine tipped markers with a fire orange look & a blue spectrum of shade for the wings with Staedtler water color pencils… set phase one of the hair & wings in motion… all the while continuing on the skin tone until it feels right….

Working on the wing while the ink settles in her hair before using the markers, knowing how mediums work is a lesson learned along the way… want sharper / cleaner color, let black ink settle in the paper before working over top of it… using bright permanent Staedtler, colored, fine-tipped markers for her hair gave enough fire that I was looking for…

There is also something to be said for the creative freedom of no deadlines…being able to sit down & work for as little or as long as it hits is an amazing thing…
